I Dream of Genie

I walked on a beach of sandy grains
and glimpsed a glow in a sparkle faint
A glassy lamp my hand had reached
from the deep of sea it had beached

It once was a lamp of perfumed oil
of the sweetest essence of flowery spoils
Darkened now by the passing age
of a bygone time from a folded page

I rubbed the lamp for a peak inside
pondering a secret an old glass hides
A purple vapor issued from the rim
in a smokeless cloud of cold blue flame

I waited awhile for the mist to clear
A beautiful damsel was standing near
She was dressed in a silken nightie gown
and smiled at me with eyes dark brown

In the ancient lamp she was locked in chains
where she lived her life in tears and pain
Imprisoned inside by an olden sheik
to rob her soul and her spirit to break

But I saved her life

So she put her arms round me
and whispered in my ear

"I am your Genie…
Your wish is my command…"

And she kissed me

Wave~

A genie in a bottle
washed upon the beach.
A seafaring captain
found her within his reach.

He freed her from
the depths of her bottled hell.
Her kiss rewarded his
efforts very well.

Onward Captain !
Onward, I say !
Take this Genie's love
and keep it on this day.

She will grant a wish
to give you all she can.
Captain, oh Captain !
She'll be true to her man.

Command her stay
close by your side.
Make her, Captain ..
your loving bride.

Denise... Thank you for liking my poems.

Marge... That was a very lovely poem. Thank you . I really hope to marry someday, and my bride does not even have to be a genie. One might think this is a "politically incorrect" poem about a man’s possessiveness of women. Quite the contrary, It was written with the liberation of the Arabian woman in mind! I am relatively new to writing poetry, and I am finding that it is very funny business. I never understand the totality of meaning in my poems until they are finished. This one apparently turned out as a "cute poem" (I think).

James... Thanks for the comment. I hope you enjoy the beach. But be careful, some magic lamps have vengeful sixty-foot one-eyed Cyclopes.Barbara Eden is very lovely indeed.

Elizabeth... I prize your compliment highly. Thank you.
