- -  Remnants of my Family - -
March 3, 2000

The family I thought that I had for so long -
I had no idea - of just how much was wrong.
My parents were married for 25 years,
I was so proud of that - yet so blind to their tears.

We had a few struggles, though nothing too great -
Now we're scattered like seeds, feeling anger & hate.
Here I am, nearly 30 - and what do I see?
Broken pieces where once lived my own family...

Each member has gone now, his own separate way -
All four of us living our lives day by day...
Tennessee, Texas, D.C., Arkansas -
Where am I to go, for the strength that I draw?

So out here I stand, so alone in my life -
Where's my mother & father - her husband, his wife?
The family I thought that I had for so long -
I had no idea - of just how much was wrong.

Nearly 30 years later, the secrets revealed -
I won't live to see all the many wounds healed.
So out here I stand, so alone in this life -
With just remnants of family, it cuts like a knife.

This was sad and touching Gen...
Just remember that you can also draw strength from your friends...you know the Toy Story song..."You've got a friend in me"- Come on hun- sing along!!!! *S*

Shall I send you a smile in the mail??? G*

You must have felt some love and security growing up and it is from these roots that you draw your strength, for you are your own person, and all these answers lie within you. That won't stop the blade from cutting, but it will allow you to live your life in the most productive and most fullfilling way that you can. A sad poem.

This one leaves me speachless, pFF, in it's familiarity to me.  You write of this "all too common" situation so very well.  I read this last night, and it stayed with me in thought for quite a while.  Just to let you know...a very "felt" piece.  Thank you for sharing.

pFF, well written story on a sad subject for sure. I hope they know what a caring daughter they have and are proud of the special writer you are and the depth of your heart.

I can understand where your feelings are coming from
It's like you feel lost in a room although the room is filled with people.
I can relate oh to well to your poem which by the way is very good.

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.
