The Heart's Cruel Fate

We seldom think of passionís future
What will be the heartís cruel fate
All thoughts of sense escape the mind
When love is standing at your gate

We always welcome in the stranger
Open wide the parlor door
It enters like an honored guest
And treads with ease upon the floor

It sits in comfort at your hearth
It eats your fruit and drinks your wine
It sleeps upon your feathered bed
Of eider down and linens fine

It bathes in waters of your soul
It draws your lifeblood from within
It gathers up your songs of joy
And sings them to the passing wind

It strums sweet music on your harp
It dances Ďround the parlor floor
It reaps your field, consumes your heart
And then it wanders out the door

And you are left with barren field
No cup of water in the well
No wood to light a warming fire
The heart is left a hollow shell

But life goes on and hearts recover
Time does heal the wounds of old
But nothing can erase the scars
That ache in damp of winterís cold

Very nice indeed.
"Time does heal the wounds of old"
Love is a risk, but what is gained if this risk is not taken. Your poem so nicely reveals the down side of the risk.
Nice piece.

Some very true words you have spoken, Liz.  And spoken so beautifully, at that.  Exceptional poem.

Elizabeth, my friend~
This is simply truth.
How easily you tell the stories of life.
