           My Daughter's Wedding

Today I walked down a ceremonial aisle
my daughter beside me her arm on mine
the wedding march playing all the while
a dress so beautiful, white lace design

This day to take the hand of another
the one who has won her tender heart
a future together, now theirs to discover
have and to hold, till death does part

Walking still, so many memories come back
of a child so small, now a lovely bride
not a moment of love or caring did she lack
I stand with her now brimming with pride

Who gives this woman to marry this man?
the preachers words echoing in my ear
reaching together they're now hand in hand
I have givin the one that I hold so dear

As vows are said, unity candle to light
so many memories I have of the past
years of laughter, joy and much delight
now with another, a promise to everlast

The candles are aglow, vows are now said
do you take this woman to have and to hold
prayers are spoken, words from Bible said
on fingers now placed bonding rings of gold

They have said "I Do", ceremony is through
I leave with less than when I came
into the future for a life so new
she has now taken another man's name

                       For Andrea
                       I Love You, Dad

What a beautiful poem. You accomplished the most hardest and bravest thing a man can do-letting your daughter go. You did not leave with less you came(even though it feels that way) you gained the atmost admiration from your daughter and the ones around you.

 --------------
You got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
and show the world all the love in your heart
Then people are gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes you will
That your beautiful as you feel.~~~ Carol King

What a beautiful tribute.  It brought tears to my eyes.

 It matters not how strait the gate;
How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Very close to home for me. I have a daughter also. But she has a long way to go to marriage, still this moved me because i can picture myself with her in your words.

Danny, this is so sweet!!! I know that giving away a daughter to another man has got to bring tears to your eyes...it's an emotional thing!!
Have you ever heard "Butterfly Kisses"??? Your poem reminded me of this song, such a beautiful event!!! Stand proud Dad!!!

As much as I would love that autographed picture, I was rather thinking that a willing body may be better....
