The Garden

I often think of hours fought
To seek a dream that came to naught
I often think of passion spent
On splendid love that came and went

Of times I tried to reach a star
But never seemed to reach that far
The miles I trudged, as I recall
To find I hadn’t moved at all

I’ve wondered at the hopelessness
Why I could never reap success
I viewed my life and circumstance
As fallen chips of fate and chance

But then contentment came along
The truth came spilling out in song
The endless hours of fruitless deed
Were hours spent in planting seed

And every seed, a vision of
A child whose heart is full of love
For every little story read
Were seeds of love taken to bed

The hours of toil, the weariness
Can sometimes cloud the true success
So lost in chores of every day
Our eyes are closed along the way

For  never did I recognize
The wonders right before my eyes
The dream, the star, the endless toil
Were nutrients in life’s own soil

The children of the labored hours
Were blossoming to radiant flowers
And every petal a token of
All I’d given out of love

My family is a garden fair
With colors blooming everywhere
And what a lovely peaceful place
Adding one more little face

Another child to love and know
Another field  to plow and sow
And I would do it all again
‘Twas not for me, it was for them

"My family is a garden fair

Such few words and yet they say so much.
I do enjoy your writings.
They always seem to be full of love and yet powerful.
Thank you for the read Elizabeth

Liz, your fluent and fertile poetry effuses wisdom to the most barren soul... wonderful, once again.

This is lovely Liz, thatnkyou so much for thinking of me when you wrote it.

The flowers from my garden fair,
The ones that truely blossom there.
A rose does not near compare.
To the lives that I did bare.

Many things in life do fade,
As like the rose that's away laid.
But once the price is fully paid,
In love your children never fade.

My children are my joy in life,
My love for them erases strife.
For though I was once just a wife,
A mother be I, right here for life.

My children are my joy and comfort and there is a price we must pay when we become parents. We give up the freedom of single life when we make the commitment to raise a new life. I did not make the decision alone but I do raise mine alone. though I stumble and fall in my life, I will never leave behind the responisbility and love of my children.

Thankyou again for this Liz. It is truely an inspiration.

Elizabeth, my friend~

In your heart
that is so kind,
live words to ease
the weary mind.

What blessings
you bestow
when from your pen
such ink does flow.

Exquisite, my friend.

*Marilyn, to have inspired this
would have to be a wonderful feeling.
I love your 'mommy' heart.

This is lovely, Liz!!! There is nothing like a mother's love, my mom is proof of that as are many others!

Love and hugs,
Lizzie
