A cat sat on my car hood one day As I sat shivering Eyeing a hummingbird in the morning sun. It was far from still And in this small moment, it was racing Twenty heartbeats to my one. The cat eyed me suspicously As I puffed on a cigarette Rather hesitantly. But I am a heretic From the word go, if anyone really Cares to know. Then, in formation Geese flew overhead. And for some unknown reason Retained this image of cat and bird Instead. I sat in that car in early light Because discordance now creeps And the ever prevalent universal he Has penetrated my dreaming sleep. He has asked, Do you prefer bread or bisquit And I have had no answer. So suffer me no sufferance And make me pay no penance For shall cat and bird dance In moonlight high Or will they only distantly From afar, see eye to eye? And will you brush my cheek gently And linger like the scent of ginger As I mercilessly must comply? And can you provide an answer to All questions why? Let it be said: There is no need to bother with reply If you already know the answer. |

Shall cat and bird dance In moonlight high Or will they only distantly, from afar, See eye to eye? This is indeed excellent writing, Soleil. I've read it twice and am going back for a third helping. Thank you. |
