On the outside you could never tell
New coat of paint and all is well.
But, the inside.
The inside, you can't so easily hide.
Ten years of neglect takes its toll.
Robs a house of its very soul.
Window sills where waters marked
Tear stained pillows hidden at dark.
Light switches and door bells lead nowhere.
Sadness replaces smiles that once were there.
Flooring yellowed over time.
As long as there is a roof everything is fine.
Ceiling is cracked and needs repair.
As long as there's hunting, no need to care.
A house neglected is not a home.
But, a wife neglected feels very alone.

A house can be so desolate when not filled with the love that it takes to make a home.  Even the most worn, run-down houses are wonderful, warm places if love and kindness are contained within its walls.  You poem speaks loudly of a desolation that needn't have been.

i really liked this...it had an underlying meaning, i had to read it twice, but i got it! and you are right foundations such as housing can take weathering and neglect much more than people. take care,

Very nice piece of writing, good analogies. So sad when houses crumble due to neglect, likewise as well relationships.

 She says baby,
It's 3am I must be lonely,
When she says baby,
Well I can't help but be scared of it all sometimes,
Says the rains gonna wash away I believe it.

I love you baby... always.*
