(I remembered this poem after reading RufffRider's poem, Mommy Will Kiss Your Owie and I'm reposting it with a few changes)

The Magic Medicine

My Son
you greet the problems
of the world with indifference.
Totally engrossed in growing,
your elbows and knees
are the brunt of asphalt’s
bad jokes.

You believe
a kiss is magic medicine,
and a bandage stops pain.
Death to you is just
a mystery,
a catalyst for your questions,
the monsters of your dreams
are real.

"How did God make
the world?"
"If I bleed
will I die?"
you ask this mother
who you believe
has all the answers.

Spindle legged boy
tripping over cracks
in the cement
with run-down sneakers
sun-drenched hair
the sea in your eyes.

Yes, I love you.
No, you will not
live forever.

Big Smiles here as I say AMEN.
Children do think the world of their mom`s.
I know as a child there wasn`t a thing that mom couldn`t fix.
Through a child`s eye`s MOM is everything and there`s nothing in the world that mom can`t do.
Thank you for bringing this wonderful read back up and for the smile`s Martie.

Oh, Martie, this one made my breath catch in my throat.  Excellently written, with a truth that gives me goosebumps.

Would you check your e-mail, please?

I could write free verse forever and not even come near to this level of excellence. I salute you, Martie.

This is wonderful Martie!  you capture the images of childhood so perfectly...

Think I will go and hug my children now...*running off*

 I love the time
and in between
the calm inside me
in the space
where I can breathe...
