The Pier

His small hand enfolds her finger
Grasping for security
Adventure on an ocean pier
Sea green sunbeams
Shining up from below

Spying the Boardwalk
The mammoth roller coaster looms
He Licks lips, anticipates
Cotton candy, rides, hot dogs

The pier breathes in, sighs
His grip tightens
As she guides him along
Puffs of steam spiral slowly
Boiled crabs deftly dismantled
Whack, whack, whack
Shiny shelled shrimp on show of ice
Bouquet of lemon and garlic

They continue to pier’s end
His eyes widen as he listens
To sounds of barking
She holds him over the rail
Below, an amazing sight
Seven seals swimming
He giggles gleefully at
Silky chocolate skin
Puckish dark eyes
Whiskers
Flapping flippers
But if she lets go, he’ll surely fall
He reaches around her neck
She gently pries his hands away
Turns him back towards the seals
Reassures him that she won’t let go
Not ever
Not in a million, trillion years.

Your wording made this so easy to visualize
that I almost felt as if I were walking beside you.
I can tell that your a very proud mommy.
Thank`s for the stroll down the board walk Corinne.

This is a beautiful poem Corinne. Your son is a lucky boy to have a mom as talented as you.

Corinne,  This was sooooo nice, a very touching mother son affair. But you made me really hungrey for some sea food. So much was real about this poem, great job.

Corinne~
It's precious.  Aren't those little fingers grasping ours the strings to our hearts?
I liked sharing a walk with you and your son.
