No,
not even,
scant reflection of myself
as I looked deep into his eyes.
Just
an empty,
guilty shrug as he turned to walk away.

And I,
the keeper of the words--
burned in pain--
believing
had I but
said it just right,
well, then, he would have stayed.

Don't beat yourself up, serenity.  I find myself doing that too, question what if I had said this or done that - and if their feelings were worth a squat to begin with, you wouldn't be where you are right now.  I feel your pain all too well.  Just remember you're not the one who walked out - their loss.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do to keep someone..no matter how it hurts, you have to pick yourself up and move on.

You say in a few words what many feel at times. "If only I had..." probably makes no difference at all

Having been there once myself, I remember the intense feeling of loss ( like an addiction ) I paced the floor ... lost my job ... lost weight ... basically became a hermit ... there was no internet then and
friends I had didn't care for poetry.
Just had myself and my 5 year old son to keep me going ... thoughts of him pulled me out of it ... and when I found my true love that I am still with today ... I couldn't even create a picture of my first wife in my mind any longer.
All the longing I felt for her vanished and thinking back, I wondered how it could even have haunted me in the first place ... but it does haunt us because it's an addiction of the worst type and the hardest one to cure

sorry if I rambled

serenity,
Succinct, but to the point, you will survive,

serenity,
I LOVE this one, so much emotion and meaning expressed with so few words...yet it has such impact. I relate to this one well...
the things we didnt say...
take care, janet marie

...there are places inside all our souls...
that have never been touched...
there are places inside our hearts...
that need to be loved this much...

Love say`s more than word`s can ever say.
If that wasn`t enough, then he or she, is the one that has lost.

Sometimes when people are at a crossroad in their lives words can be very powerful and if we say the right words or the wrong words can determine much.     James

Serenity...if it would have taken you saying the right words to make him stay, he wouldn't have stayed for long anyway...true love is not having to say a word and still being understood. So sad, but so well written....love the line "And I,
the keeper of the words--"

Why, Serenity~
Of course you're okay.
At least I think so ...
and what am I ... wrong ?
I think not !

Your writing reveals a strong
person who is capable of overcoming
trials that are put upon you.
Friends who care can help.
Writing can help.
Sharing with friends can help.
Keep your spirits up, gal.

Believe in yourself ... for I believe in you.
