Smile and show your happy face,
Laugh and grin around this place.
People do not want to see,
Who I am inside of me.

Life's about the surface things,
Friends are there when your heart sings.
They do not want to really know,
When your darkness begins to show.

It's not about just what we need,
Who we are and how we bleed.
So smile and laugh, give them a show,
Cry your tears so no one knows.

"They do not want to really know, when your darkness begins to show."
Probably right, Marilyn.  Sad, but maybe true.  So, this smile is for you.

take care, janet marie

 ...every moment of every day...

Marilyn, A partial truth, but I judge on how you say rather than what you say and you did a good job.

This is a qoute from one of those secret poems that are too personal to post, but it's somewhere on my hard drive. This is just a small excerpt:

Did you ever cry a thousand tears in pain and helplessness
But walk with grace and dignity so no one else would guess
Did you easily allow events to pull your life apart
So that you wouldn't have to know or feel the love within your heart
Did you become someone else that didn't really care
Because the "other you" felt sorrow that was just too great to bear
And hiding truth in such a place that no one else would find
A quiet mask deceiving all and leaving pain
behind

etc etc. Then it ends:
Are you ready now to finally take a look and recognize
The person who's within you through the mirror of your eyes
Do you truly want to face the sorrow you might find inside
It's a question only you can answer, you alone decide

The point? A lot of smiles masking the truth. Problem is, one day you have to face it. At least, I did
Love ya

I have been filled with sad poems lately.  I feel maybe too many for anyone to want to read more, thinking they will be sad, even though they may not be.  Life is not always balanced and pain and sadness sometimes elicit the best from us in verse and in lessons.  I liked your poem.

*pensive look*  Hmmm... This piece is how I work in this world too often.  Bury the pain and smile, hiding the tears in your eyes.

"Friends are there when your heart sings.
They do not want to really know,
When your darkness begins to show."

In my book friends are there when your heart sings and they rejoice in that song as much as you.  I myself try to find out why a friend is feeling down.. why darkness is consuming them.  I want to understand and help in anyway I can, even if it's only to listen...

I both agree and disagree with this poem.  A true smile from me to you

Marilyn, your friends do care how you feel. Even when you're sad. You know you can talk to me, all you have to do is click that button.  You need to reach out too, not keep it to yourself. Let it out and talk to someone. I am here, you see me, if you need me.

I have felt the very same way as this.
As I'm sure many can relate to this also.
Do not pretend to be what you're not, putting on a show of happiness if you don't feel that way. You showed that in this poem really well.

I'm here, if ya need me! ~Hugs~

Marilyn~
If someone causes a tear in a friend
they cause a tear in me.

I am never afraid of my tears,
especially if they fall for a friend.

My smiles are worth sharing ...
but give me the tears of a friend ...
and I'll do my darndest to wipe them away.

Your poem was touchingly tender.
Be who you are ... that's good enough for me.
Love ya' ~*Marge*~

My Passions family. ((hug)) to all of you!! You see exactly who I am through my writings. You know what I am thinking and how I am feeling. I try to do the same in real life. I try to talk to those I think are my friends. They either can not cope with hearing what I say and how I feel or they do not want to. For a long time I have been trying to reach out and it seems people do not know how to handle someone in pain. I have recieved surface replies and food in response to my cry for caring.

Liz..I am attempting to deal with what I have inside of me. There are a couple of things that make it difficult.
1) I have 3 children who need me and always come first. They have busy lives and so mine is very busy. I have not the time for me that I need to deal with this.

2) I am a single mother with NO support from a dead beat dad. I have to work in order to feed and clothe my children. There is always something that comes before me and somehow in all of this I have to try and deal with me.

I am doing the best that I can with what I have but it seems I am still alone in my dispair. My writing helps me to get out my darkness and that is the way it has to be for now.

My mother told me, the other day, that my stories was always too sad for her. She asked me to write something happy for a change. I don't know how to do that, I do not know how to write anything that does not draw tears. Is this a reflection of my own heart?

Marilyn, it's a reflection of how you're feeling. Life is getting you to you with all of it's struggles.  I told ya I've been there, no surface talk.

If you wanna talk, please message me, I shall listen. I will do the best I can to be there. Is your Mom close by? Maybe someone can take the kids for you over the weekend, and Marilyn can get a little R&R for herself?
Everybody needs sometime alone to reflect.

~hugs~

I understand better your poetry, and my poem above was written well after those days of hardship and pain, when I finally had time to look back on it all. Your poetry is a wonderful outlet. You are suffering now the consequences of some twists in your life. It does get better, believe me. Please know that things will not always stay the same
Lots of love

Marilyn~ HUGS! I relate so well! I too have 3 kids that come first, I don't have a dead beat dad to worry about though. I have a husband who's wants and needs tend to stack up and push mine down further, after all what could I need? I stay home and cook, clean and home-school. I feel your hurt. I am not a fair-weather friend, I will be here, even when it gets"ugly"   A real friend is there through the good and bad. I'm here and I really do care.-SEA

I think friends 'do' want to know what goes on inside of each other ... it may seem as though they don't because they are so afraid of not knowing what to say or how to respond to a friend in need ... they want so bad to be a guiding light but they know they cannot always be ... for this reason they may seem insensitive to you ... but to them ... it becomes a personal failure which lowers their self esteem
this is just my opinion ... so don't take it as the gospel

My opinion is that friends like to be able to help in some way. I try to make someone smile or do something to take their mind off their troubles, even if only for a short time. For some people that is helpful. Unfortunately, for others, it is not and, for those people, I don't know what to do or say. As Rex so aptly said, it leads to a helpless feeling. Solutions ultimately come from within. Friends can help by showing that one is not alone but, in the final analysis, it is one's own actions that makes the difference between defeating one's problems or sinking beneath them. A humble opinion from a man who has been wrong many times.

Marilyn,
We all wear masks from time to time...it's true friends who look behind the surface to see who you really are and love you anyway...good , bad, sad, happy.
I love you my friend...and as good as this poem is, it makes me sad
((((HUGS))))
Ruth

I wrote you a poem (You Saw Me) that I am posting, thank you for the inspiration in a time when I need all I can get and thank you for seeing me my friend

Thankyou all for your understanding and caring.

Mike...Never did I mean to put down my friends. For though you do not know what to say you have always been there for me. I can not forget about my problems, I must deal with them. It is time, I have avoided them for 3 years and they are catching up to me. This is why I feel the way that I do. I just want you to know it is not about what you say. I do not need someone to give me the answers just to leand me their strength. I am looking for a hand to hold, a shoulder to lean on and arms to comfort as I rid myself of the pain in huge sobs. This is the only thing I find lacking right now and the thing I crave the most. I hope you understand my friend. You are very valued to me and I would never want to lose the friendship that we have. It's true a lot of people only want to see your happy face, but the true blue friends soothe with their warm embrace,
they know that one day soon you'll be happy again, and its YOU that they care about, my friend.

Geeze, I have been on an emotional rollercoaster tonite. One poem makes me laugh, another happy, another think, another sad, then the whole process starts again. This poem is sadly far to true of life Marilyn. I like to consider myself one of the few who are willing to discuss the negative aspects of life, instead of shying away for happier things. If you ever want to talk, you have my ICQ and can email me. Oh, and great poem

Hey, Marilyn!! Sorry for responding so late....had a tough works schedule lately. Don't even think I wouldn't be there for you or that you could say anything to hurt our friendship. You're stuck with me!!! The arm is here, the shoulder is standing by and the smiling face is on call whenever you need us. Count on it!!!!!

Marilyn: Hoot's right... we all wear masks... sometimes to protect others from our pain, sometimes to try to convince ourselves that looking happy will lead to being happy. I thank God I have friends that aren't only around when my heart sings.... for even when a friend can't solve a problem, it helps to know that they're there and they care. *S*

I hope you find the respite you need... soon!!! *S* Meanwhile, keep writing! *S* I find it helps to bring order to words when the rest of my world is in chaos... and I hope it helps you, too!
