I do not want a perfect wife,
...a buxom Barbie doll,
I'll take my mate with hint of strife,
...who yells when I don't call.

When first wakes up, can be a grouch,
...can give the evil eye,
When she's irate, I get the couch,
...I oft' times wonder why.

She can burn a scrambled egg,
...and likes to have her way,
I often think she likes to beg,
...to get my hard earned pay.

But late at night, when she's asleep,
...I gaze upon her there,
I know down deep, that I will keep,
...her in my heart for e'er.

When I'm in trouble she's nearby,
...to be there by my side,
I know for me that she would die,
...together we have cried.

The more I think upon my life,
...my not so perfect wife,
Notwithstanding, occasional strife,
...I have a perfect wife.

Sheesh.. she would have to be to put up with me.

I like it!

None of us can escape that reality and I think it can be beautiful - must be to produce such a great poem.

I was sitting at work today and thought about this too
Now I did not post mine yet because your's for me will do
I find your's is even better.
Very nice

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Bravo Tim....perfection in poetry and what a perfect mate you have. For all the faults and disagreements in the world, the one to be there and truely care is what we really need. Wise words my friend.

Nobody is perfect. Since you both realize that you will have a marriage that lasts! Excellent poem, Mike!!

You know the sweetness of this just brought tears to my eyes.  How wonderful, I hope you've shown it to her?

I agree completely Mike ...
I cannot go through life trying to be the perfect husband and role model ... I need to live my life as 'me'
wy wife and kids seem to be able to live with that ... I expect no more from them
we don't paint any pictures ... we just love each other for what we are and try to be aware of each others feelings

I read this as one of the most
sincere,
honest
and loving
tributes to a "better" half.
I hope that your wife received it as such.
It is not that we find the "perfect" partner,
but one with whom we are accepting of their "imperfections".
That is love...unconditional acceptance of someone,
including things that are not always
stereotypically desirable.

Very well written piece.  Always liked the idea of writing a list of all the qualities we want in a mate, then going over it to see which ones we , ourselves have developed first.  It's a sad marriage when one cannot ever excuse the other or accept anything less than perfection.  I'm sure yours carries a sense of humor too, to ease the rough spots.
