(a repost in loving memory of my daughter Michelle)

February 21, Every year

Today you emerged
from hibernation.
I felt you tapping
the shoulder
of my memory.

Look, you said,
I am
swept under the heartbeat
of memory, sleeping,
covered by hours
then by days
finally by years
until my laughter
fades from memory
and the sound of my voice
is lost.

I am only noticed
when February cuts into
your heart
or in my picture
one sided and posed.

You look for me
across the mountain top
as if my ashes are what
seed the ground
and I can feel
the pilgrimage
of your feet
upon my soul.

Your heart beat
is me
and the ache
in womb
the full blue vained
breast of remembering
is where you can find me
and I will always be there
trust your tears.

Martie,
this is SO beautiful...a lovely tribute to your daughter...thank you for sharing it...
take care, janet marie

 I love you
Is all that you can't say-
Years gone by and still...
Words don't come easily
Like I love you, I love you...
But you can say baby...
Baby can I hold you tonight
Maybe if I told you the right words
At the right time you'd be mine...

This is beautiful and in simple terms beauty from ashes. I know what these anniversaries are like, I too lost a child going on 6 years ago. God bless you..

Oh Martie, you truly breathe life into your words and my heart just aches with you my friend.

I'm always here should you need a cyber shoulder.

She will always be in your heart
Especially with such a poem
You are in my thoughts

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Today is the day in sorrows deep well
Of remembrace and love of the cherished Michelle
And I feel in my heart the love and the pain
As my friend writes in honor of her blessed name
I offer my love and a heartfelt embrace
As your eyes swell with visions of her lovely face
May your heart be in peace and comfort, my friend
Til you join your Michelle up in heaven again
Love
Liz

Septsong, I pray the same for you, dear poet

Martie I can't say I've lost one, but I have 3 I hope I never go through that. I wish you didn't either! God bless you, I hope your pain gets easier, she will always be with you in spirit and memory! Truly beautiful poem!

Losing a child, I'm sure, is the worst grief that there is. HUGS to you, Martie. Your poem for Michelle is beautiful.

for the past 8 years - October 24 looms large  annually - you will understand  having read 'week of 24 hour days' your ability to make me feel your pain is tangible - and I feel it as concretely as my own.
