The Sting Of The Thorn

Words without remorse pierce and shame
Self control lost, only the sting remains
Two vicious voices, who is to blame
When one’s foolish pride goes insane

Words wickedly wounding, stuck in one’s head
When we don’t think before we say
Scorned self-esteem, from what should never have been said
If I lost your friendship, forever would I pay

Take it all back, I would if I could
Replace the pages of time I trifled and torn
I apologize now, I know that I should
I never meant to prick you with the sting of the thorn

Marina,  This is a very good poem, it really is the truth and is exactly how reality is.

Rhonda thank you very much. It is unfortunate reality for a lot of us.

Marina, I really loved this one, its all too familiar believe me. Can relate on both sides, I've done a few stingings to regret.

James: Everyone has at some point in time...It's only  human nature.  What's important is that we learn from them and to let that person know your true feelings for them.   Someone told me emotions make good poems....

Yes, there is an excellent message. Hopefully, some will heed it. Regret for badly spoken words is not a nice feeling.

Very well written.

Painfully real, this is.  I'm sure we've all been there and made this mistake.  Exellent work.

Back to the top with this nice piece.  Went back to read more of your work and I thought this was well written and speaks so well about how we sometimes say things without realizing the impact of the words.
Nice poem.

Marina, I can relate all too well to words spoken hastily.  All that remains is regret.  You have my empathy on this one.

A spoken word remains permanently in the heart. This was an excellent poem

Liz, your right. We can never take back what we have said and unfortunitly I am the worst person for saying things I don't mean out of anger.
