The cover of my journal is black.
Some might say like my heart.
But it's anger they speak.
Because I won't share my art.

Beneeth this black cover.
Is black ink bound with tears.
Where I search out my heart,
and unleash my fears.

In here I make poems last for days.
Or quite abruptly, end.
In my little black book.
I have found my best friend.

The words in my black book.
Will never be attached to my face.
Not as long as my soul dwels in this place.

Although I share my thoughts discretely with you.
I find comfort in the fact that you share too.

When the pages in this book come to an end.
I will place it on my shelf,
Run out to purchase another.
And it's beautiful white pages.
With black ink I will smother.

As I sit here writing.
I regain the freedom they took.
When my pen graces the pages
of My Little Black Book.

Thank you for listening.
It is so nice to have a voice.

I relate to this poem so much. Thankyou for sharing it . It takes courage to share what you have kept only to yourself for so long....well done.

I look forward to reading more of your work.

Great first post dear fellow.    Welcome to Passions.  You'll soon see that everyone here is extremely too nice, that is why we all return.  Thanks for sharing. I hope to see more in the future.

Ok Brent...by the title I thought it was going to be the many phone numbers you'd gotten over the years...go ahead and laugh!! I'm glad to see such depth in your little black book- I have several of them myself!!!
Here's a sincere welcome from me Brent!!!

WELCOME Brent!! Great poem. I have books too. Mine are girly though! This is my safe place to come share my heart and the pieces of myself that VERY few people have ever been allowed to know. You're gonna love it here. Again, welcome!   -SEA

Welcome to Passions. Many of us can relate to this work. We share our inner selves with the people on this board. That is how we have become such a close knit family. Again welcome.

Thank you all so so much. You have brightened my day. I hope to get to know you all better. I am so glad to have found you. When I was trying to pick a poem to introduce myself to you and your site. I couldnt decide so I wrote one that most all of us could relate to. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Welcome to Passions. This poem makes me want to go out and buy a little black book, which I think I'm going to do for an upcoming trip. Very nice read

Brent, Hey just wanted to say a big welcome to you too!  I really liked how you opened up in this - that's what we're all here for.  We bare our souls, and it's okay, because we all have those fears and tears you speak of.  That's what makes us poets....our ability to put our hearts on paper.  You do so exquisitely!  Keep sharing, it feels good, doesn't it?     I think you'll find this is quite the happy place to share most all the time!  One big family of writers, and readers!  Welcome!

Brent, You do have a voice here, and we are all listening. But by your third poem, you much list the numbers in the back of your black book, oh for us lonely sorts.....

Great first poem at passions.

Thanks Liz. You shold do that. I think I am going to go buy didgital recorde to capture my thoughts when I am working and cant cary my black book on the job.

Thamks for the welcome Femme. I'll show you my soul if you show me yours.LOL You are absolutly right about what makes us poets. I have read that it is when we sing or dance or draw or write that our soul shines the brightest.

I am not sure what you mean about the number thing Haleyja.  Thanks for the complement.

Actually - it's funny that you said that. (above)
It is only when I sing, dance, draw, or write....that I truly live.  You couldn't be more right.  Thank you.
