Deafened By Silence

The silence is deafening.
Words, never said,
ring loud and unmistakable
in my ears;
the reverberation
more than I can stand.

Your eyes speak
volumes
and I have to turn
away from the truth
they shout, in glances,
at me.

My eyes betray me
with their tears
as you walk away
in utter stillness.

Once, not long ago,
you shook my world
when you said you loved me.
Tonight, you leave
me deaf
without saying a single word.

 Have you ever noticed
That the words...
"Goodbye"
"I'm sorry"
"I love you"
Are so easy to pronounce
...Yet so hard to say
~Javan

wow, stunning, that ending reverberates...so many times I have wished for temporary deafness, just not to hear anymore...but this...wow...what a way to say it....

Such power in this one, Hoot.
Deafening, much like an unwanted numbness, sometimes.
You describe so well a situation I'm sure
many (too many) can understand first-hand.
Even a second reading still leaves me with
such strong, powerful feelings.
Good job.

Hoot: Not hearing can sometimes make the words even louder..and if you understand that..

I hear the sound you spoke so silently
A wisphered piece of poetry
Your getting better this I see
I wish I could only write half as good as thee
The "Awe" still remains
Hugs and Love

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Well articulated, Ruth. Silence is not necessarily golden                                                                                   t

As I search the my world....that which is changed....I look for those feelings, words, and knowledge that I once had.  I have been distant to many and gone to others all together.  I am not myself and I so want to be again.  I am losing the battle that rages before me.....for I need time...and time fails to stand still.  For even if things could slow down....maybe I could hold on.  Know that my silence is nothing more than being alone....and being lost, fighting for that which will determind my life.

Wow, Ruth.  Super poetry comes from your heart.  Made me think of the words in a song, "the loudest sound I know, is the sound of letting go"

Ruth~
Your heart speaks the words
another might say in silence.
Lovely, dear lady.

"The silence is deafening
Words never said"
Sometimes the words never said say more than if they were spoken (does that make sense?)
Hoot, we know you by your thoughts which you so wonderfully put to pen.

Can fully understand the pain in this.  The silence is a neverending banging on a mistuned drum.  Excellent poem Ruth, you've captured the essence of "silence" well.

There are many messages to be heard in the sounds of silence - interpreting those sounds takes an extremely fine-tuned ear.....

Nice job, Ruth..

Heartbreakingly beautiful, Ruth. I trust that it is merely a poem? However the pathos revealed has so much of the ring of truth. thank you for this glimpse into your soul.

Nan...thank you

GS....coming from you, that is very high praise...thank you...and yes, you are right, my words ring to true not to be. In my poetry I have a hard time disguising my feelings, hiding the true me...sometimes that is not a good thing
