Shooting Stars & Dog Slobber
~~~
The walls have started to move again
the elusive flicker ... just ... beyond my sight
I can feel it ... I can almost see it
There's something behind me
... shhhh ...
don't look ...
Dear God ... make it leave!
... what's that noise ...
... there it  is again ...
.....
... it's back in the wall ...
... ok  ...
... I can breathe ...
~
This is happening too often ...
I need to get out
get off this computer
breathe fresh air and shout
I'll go for a walk
round the block with the dog
It's quarter to three
and the snows thick as fog
~
I lean back and get set
as I open the gate
the dog drags me through
'cause a sling shot won't wait
My feet start to slide
as we round the first curve
Jump over two snow drifts
and dragged through the third
~
A neighborhood cat
steps out of the night
"dear God hear my prayer
get this cat out of sight "
A meow and a bark
drifting loud down the street
The leash I grip tight
as I'm pulled off my feet
~
Every dog within earshot
joins in the howl
and I'm dragged through a bush
before I throw in the towel
I lie there for ages
heart pounding with fright
I notice the snowflakes
drift by out of sight
~
They dance and they swirl
and they land on my nose
My feet are so cold
I can't wiggle my toes
Just then the snow ceases
the night sky opens bright
The stars how they glitter
my God what a sight
~
Big dipper ... Orion ...
they're all in the sky
Then up walks my dog
sticks her tongue in my eye
I spit and I sputter
then get up on one knee
As our neighborhood watch
started laughing at me
~
They help me brush off
chew the fat for a while
We exchange a few laughs
then head home with a smile
The dog had her walk
and I needed a rest
Now the walls are dead still
...but ...
... the floor...
~~~
this is my last post
thankyou all for your kind responses
It's been an interesting ride

Hillarious!
Sure needed that chuckle today!
Sounds as if more of us need to "grasp" life
as you have described here.
Excellent story!

thankyou JF ... fifth time this went through the gauntlet and has managed to find two people with a sense of  humour ... obviously there isn't much call for humour here ... people seem to prefer tears and love ... So I shall be moving on in my never ending search for a place where all can post poetry on even ground ... regardless of gender or state of mind ...
...cheers...

REX ALLEN McCOY....Bite your tongue!!!!

This place loves humor... and don't think for a minute that you're not appreciated

I'll take humor and lighthearted fun anytime.  Have you read any of the Justins' work? or Dr Moose? wayoutwalt? Nurse Crachet? Munda?...I could go on and on...

Silly is my middle name... Nancy Silli-Ness...

I absolutely LOVED this poem, btw...

Make me laugh some more...PLEASE!!!

Rex,
   Surely you JEST!? I enjoy your work, as I know others do. I very often don't get to respond to every post though...oh if only I could! Usually by the time I've come back around to Passions from my other responsibilities, all the posts have changed positions...I end up just huntin' and peckin' and tryin' to read as many as I can. But please don't EVER think your writing's not appreciated here, Rex. I'm not what you would consider a "core" member by any means, but I know what I enjoy, and I do enjoy your posts!
   I hope you'll reconsider and keep sharing your poetry with us, Rex.  As Nan said, there are tons of funny minds here! (Well, maybe she didn't say exactly that, but you know...)
(((hugs))) to you,
Claire

Rex....I don't know about anyone else here.
But this post had me running into the other room to get my wife and make her come in and read.  I couldn't get it printed fast enough.  I'm going to take it down the street to my neighbor..(She has 2-black labs that ALWAYS drag her around the block- 2 or 3 times a day sometimes.)  I LOVED it.  please don't quit posting.  I just got here and I don't wanna miss a good humor writer's work.

thanks and please reconsider.

Rex, my friend. Please reconsider. I do not get to open as much as I would like but I always look your work up when I have a chance to get here. I love your sense of humor and I  would hate to have you leave us. You have my e-mail addy and if you post something I would like to know. Please e-mail me the link so I can read your poems. I moderate the teen forum and lately I have been taking some much needed me time. I have been away from the forums more often then I have been here. Please don't take your work else where my friend. I will miss reading you terribly.

Rex~ every post you have put up has been read by me. Sometimes I just don't reply because I can't find in my mind what I want to say. I hope you change your mind and stay around a while. I do so enjoy your poetry. I happen to love fun poems.They shouldn't all be serious. Please re-think for us here who enjoy what you do! -SEA

I love this Rex!!! If it wasn't for the snow, I'd swear you've been walking through my neighborhood about 1 am every morning! LOL

I'll admit I've been slacking lately (avoiding the Valentine's Day stuff if you want the truth *S*) and haven't read any of your work... But I love humor and this is delightful. I hope you stay... I'll be looking for your name now!! *S*

Your poem was great for LOL and I can relate, not with the snow, but with the dog.
Hope you hang out a little longer.  I love to laugh.

Sorry everyone ... I am staying ... I should have deleted the message, but instead I posted a statement in a Post called
'Sorry ( first day with my new brain )'
I plead temporary insanity. I can get caught up in others problems and it gets me down and out. The pond club activities are starting again for the year and being an executive member is taxing on my time. If I am gone for a week at a time ...please don't be alarmed
You are all wonderful people and I thankyou all again for you kindness and understanding
