I ran to the trash and rescued
The film I just threw there
Advice from my friends
Who said I wasn’t being fair

I took the roll to WalMart
Development took an hour
A pack of twenty-four pictures
That held such awful power

From the first photo I could tell
They were taken at a party
I stood smiling, unconcerned
My husband standing next to me

By the fourth photo I remember
He said he met her on the stair
They sat and talked for hours
As though neither had a care

Her husband was a cruel drunk
Who lashed out at her that night
He accused them of adultery
Challenged my husband to a fight

I knew then that it wasn’t true
But didn’t know it soon would be
For that was the beginning
Of the end of you and me

By picture number twenty-four
My heart ached with fresh misery
I remember degrading lies
Humiliating me.

Holding these painful memories
Wishing I hadn’t pulled them from the trash
Sobbing now I can remember
My heart a burned, blackened ash

Is this real or part of the fiction?
If it`s real....Im so sorry for your pain..
If it`s fiction....GOOD JOB!!!
I sure hope this isn`t real????

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

Fiction...as so many replied in my other poem that they would rescue the film and have it developed, I wanted to write about what could happen if I did.... thanks!

First, let me say Excellent work! This one is even better than the first part, both in emotion and power.
Secondly, even if it was true, it is important to remember the past, no matter how painful. It is only whether or not we dwell on it that determines if it is damaging or not. If we do not choose to remember the past, we are doomed to repeat it.

I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion

Fiction too real.
Now you can throw them away !
Myself, I would have to keep them
to remind myself that the pain was
as real as I'd imagined and to assure
myself that I lived to smile for another
photograph.

Boy !  Bet you were glad WalMart wasn't
running a 2 for 1 special !

What inspiration you got from the replies.
Good job, gal.
