California! Yeah! Okay, I'm done now

Vultures circling for days now
Dancing, gliding, singing around the sun
Croaking bitter chuckles from their throats
Glaring down at me with the heat and hunger of the sun
The world was spinning, dipping, slipping away
Sand waves crashing, drying the lakes of tears cried
Shrinking the lushness away as they dry up and die
Leaving me helpless but to wonder
To reminisce of all the circling I, too, had flown
So long ago, so far behind
And yet I could reach out
To feel its shudder with my lips

The wandering had been long, but my journey was made so short
For all I wanted was an answer
One above all the answers my insides throbbed to know
Misty, drained, my lungs are sipping the heavy heated air
Voices not my own clearing my head until nothing else matters
But the scream I ache to release and fear to have heard
Though I know no one's there

"Did anyone ever love me as I did them?" I whisper
But perhaps it was only in my head, hands and heart
For the only reply I could hear howling
Was the bemused laughter from the wind

All is lost
What would there be left to hope for?
Wanting to live
Living a lie
But dying inside
I wonder how no one can see the cold eating me away
Until the sun no longer is a fire
But a hate driving me away to shadows and faded wishes on stars

Cloudy, darkening, gloominess settles
It's raining now, the cold whipping through my skin
And yet warm compared to the ice inside my heart
Feathers broken, choked, and suddenly forlorn
I knew that all I had supported myself for
Was defeated
Because all I was missing was love

Tears from the angels above falling harshly
Soothing away the pains in my skin
My eyes are shut tight, fetal, and repressed back as a child
So hard that I hardly felt arms wrap around me
Hold me tight
And whisper into my ear three simple words that brought the warmth
Sweeping, seeping, drifting, but just a faded streak
Through the crack of ice:
"Ti voglio bene."

I feel a bit better now, not enough to write anymore than I used to, but it's amazing how much better you feel when someone hugs you when you're broken, someone you never knew was there, and tells you he loves you [as a friend, of course!].  But I have been reading just about everything posted and, though I haven't been well enough inside to reply, remember that I'll always think it's lovely.

When we`re sad it`s always nice to get a hug from a friend, loved one or family....just to know that someone cares is all that counts sometimes.
I really enjoyed this and I thank you for sharing

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

My dear, there are so many excellent lines in this poem, I can't name them all -- WOW!  Excellent work, wonderful ending, and I'm not just saying that cause I'm your mentor, either!

Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...

Astraea-
What a wonderful piece.

This is fabulous writing.  I have often thought about whether someone loved me...or even I will think about someone and I will try to understand exactly what my feelings are for them and then I will try to evaluate their feelings for me and see if we are a mutual attraction.  This can be on any level..friendship or what ever.  Sometimes I have to back off if I am giving to much.  Me and a friend are going to a movie maybe this Sunday and I learned something about her today.   She hates poetry.    James
