I am new to the forum. Please feel free to comment and suggest ways of improving my poems. Nora

A Widow's Valentine

Eight years have gone by since my valentine died
and still no rest is in sight.
I toil and I struggle, I cry and I wait but no love
  can I anticipate
Gone are my glasses so rosy and gay and gone is my
cupid, my youth, and my day
Empty existence, no love comes to stay
Life without you babe all hell and no play
For I yearn for the moments when all right in my
  life
I yearn for my lover, my friend, my old life.

Friends say not to worry, get on with your life
You're young and you're strong and full of delight
Somehow, I don't see it all empty inside
For I yearn for my friend, my lover, my old life

I once was all happy, content, full of Joy
As bright and as shiny as if a new toy
With you by my side babe, love was all right
With you by my side babe, I had a great life
But gone are those days, only winter resides
For I yearn for my lover, my friend, my old life.

Nora, I think we have a mutual friend, Shawn. He mentioned that he was thinking of you today.

I can't begin to imagine your loss.  What a wonderful life it must've been, I can still feel your grief in this poem.  Hold on to the memories but don't forget to make new ones. If he loved you half as much as you still love him, he'd want you to be happy.

Hugs for you!  Hang in there.

How charged with punishments the scroll;
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

I can`t say that I know what your feeling but I do know that with help from a power greater than our`s your heart will heal.
This is very well written and yet very sad.
Im sorry for your loss and I wish you the best on your road to healing.
I almost forgot..WELCOME TO PASSION < !signature-->

The grief you feel comes through in your sad words, I hope you find peace soon.  A fitting tribute to the feelings inside.

Nora, Welcome! You write beautifully! Your feelings really come through. I felt so sad and so very sorry for your loss. My world would stop if I lost my husband. I look forward to seeing more from you.   -SEA

Nora, First of all...welcome to Passions.
This is a very sad poem and very well written. The loss must be very great, but I do agree with Tara that if he loved you even half as much as this poem imparts then he would want you to be happy in the remainder of your life. Do not give up the memories, they are so precious, but remember to make new ones as well. They are just as precious.

Nora:

Your poem touched me. I have known you for years. For all the times you told me you couldn't write, for all the times you said you weren't a poet, I say .. "See Told Ya!"

A poem is not all grammar and meter. A poem is from the heart. The passion screams to be released. When you write from your heart and pour your feelings into your writing, it can be no less than fantastic.  Love ya my friend

Welcome to Passions Nora
We all can sense your loss ... but only you can feel your pain
A new love will never be the cure but it can come awfully close
If a new sincere love happens along ... open your heart and don't turn him away

Nora, I am not the offical Passions greeter/meeter... but I cannot help but welcome you in with open arms.  I ache for you; and hope you will see a kindred spirit here, but only with one divorce behind me [a kind of a death] and the loss of two parents...please feel free to contact me if you ever feel the need to unload.  Welcome, again, to a wonderful site...hugs,

 Sunshine
