Goodbye

Donít let my heart hear
that word,
fall softly from your lips,
and do not let it give rise
when you are near.

Donít let my ears feel
that word
flogged off your tongue
in sharp syllables;
each letter like the crack of a whip.

Donít let your eyes say
truths
that I donít wish revealed;
nor my eyes betray
me
with their tears.

For one brief moment,
I began to believe
in dreams once more...
then watched as they shattered

with just one simple word.

 Have you ever noticed
That the words...
"Goodbye"
"I'm sorry"
"I love you"
Are so easy to pronounce
...Yet so hard to say

Ruth, This is so full of emotion, just wish it was of the happy type not sad

I loved this paragraph:

Donít let your eyes say truths
that I donít wish revealed;
nor my eyes betray me
with their tears.

Very moving, Hoot Owl. It's amazing what that one simple word can do. Wonderful poem, dear.

Although I know this poem so inside out
I hope I never get to hear the sound
Especially not from you
Hugs and yes I always have an "Hello" for you

 The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Hoot.......such a painful word when it's the one you never want to hear, from the one you love. Always beautiful words from you, even when they're full of heartache.   -SEA

What is goodbye, but just a word
until your own ear, it is heard
its message far too long will last
when the one who said it, becomes your past

Ruth, enjoyed your poem.  My fingers just started dancing on these keys so don't mind my spontaneous dribble.

Ruth-
As always .. you've captured a moment.
I sure enjoy what you write more and more with each reading.

That word can be devastating. This is so sad Ruth!

Which way is right for you,
Stop and softly ask yourself,
