  A Torch And A Candle

I held a candle in the night
to try and light my way,
obscuring fears of darkness
as I lived from day to day.
I cupped my hand around the flame
deflecting bits of light
who's energy diminished
fading quickly out of sight.
Then someone held a torch so high
that light encompassed me
and though I walked alone
my soul rejoiced the company.
I hold a candle in the night,
so dim it's flame does glow.
But there's a torch of caring
leading everywhere I go.

 Lorene

Yesterday is history,
tomorrow just a mystery.
And if today is good to me,
it will beat the heck out of day before yesterday!

Lorene, this is so beautiful.  It almost sings.  Very inspiring.

Good to see you back and yes, there is something incredibly comforting about watching flames flickering...I read the following somewhere and it always stayed with me....it may not be verbatim but close I think...

"Never be afraid of shadows because it means a light is shining on you"

Wonderfully written! Isn't it funny how we cannot see our own flame burning until the torch shines brightly for us? Nicely done!

I liked it! I've done my share of shadow walking and I suppose that's why I am so attracted to shiny things (and people).

OhMe-
This is illuminatingly lovely.

A candle never shines so bright
as when it sheds it's light on the
face of a friend.

I'm reminded of:
'If everyone lit just one little candle,
what a bright world this would be.'

Beautiful and so nice to see you
here among friends.

Eloise, Thanks, glad you liked it.
RG. Thank you. Flames in a fireplace, warmed my soul as well as the room!
Mike, Glad you enjoyed it.
Meadowmuse, Thanks. would not be easy if we had to depend upon our own light!!
HM3, I like shiny people best.
WhtDove. Thanks.
Marge, My candle is not as bright as I would like for it to be, but I'll let it shine anyway. Thanks

I loved this!  Awesome job on this poem, Ohme!

Old time is still a-flying,
And this same flower that smiles today
To-morrow will be dying.
