SILENCE

Silence is golden I've heard said,
But, God, it's killing me.
A stir of echoes through my head
From quiet memory.

I listen to the radio,
I turn on the T.V.
But only know the tremolo
That reigns like hell o'er me.

A telephone that never rings,
Email that never beeps.
A voice that no more for me sings,
Recounted, never sleeps.

A muted sigh, reality
Would seem by some token,
Refuted by no one but me,
At least not with words spoken.

I must admit, in sweet repose,
I find it quite profound.
The expanse of fear you impose
By withholding all sound.

A symbiotic undertone
Becomes the euphony.
With a passive, monotone hone
Forever bleeding me.

A harmony so far beyond
Any man's intuition.
By broken heart, by deafness donned,
Now come to its fruition.

Concordance met, a perfect strain,
I dance the melody.
That all too familiar refrain
Silence sings but for me.

Michael Anderson

The silence is surely worse than the knowing, be it one way or the other.  Deeply touching piece, Michael.

--Kess

Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...

Michael, only you could take the sound of silence and make it scream full of emotion. My heart goes out to you, I feel so bad. I was always thinking positive for you, and now this just throws me for a loop. I guess I need to get rid of my rose-colored glasses and view the world in reality.

Whoever said silence is golden was not waiting for a reply. I sympathize with you, Michael, and hope for the best.

Wow this is fantastic writing so full of emotion and so descriptive of your innermost feelings.  I feel like this almost everyday and I am learning to accept my fate, and that would not be living my life without love, it will be waiting for my lovers love to embrace me.  And some day she will, and tenderly.   James

Excellent poem Michael. I, too, have many battles with the silence that surrounds me.

I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion

Michael...I know all too well how deafening that silence can be. Perhaps there is a simple explanation that will unfold before your eyes soon...I wish you all the best. Although this poem speaks so loudly of your sadness, it is also well written and truly comes from the heart. Please don't be so hard on yourself my friend.

I find your poem is saying so much
Perhaps life does not always delivers the right touch
But how you feel I can see it's true
Even so I never walked a mile in your shoe
That was yesterday
A dear friend of mine has fallen in silence too
So today I know what it means to walk in your shoe
My heart goes out to you, embraces your dispare
Hoping a message will soon come out of nowhere
The poem as such is heart breaking good

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Michael, the soundlessness you write of can be deafening. What strikes me is your ability to describe it so well...all through this piece, each stanza adds more impact. A wonderful poem, a sorrowful expression, a very impressed reader! (that would be me)

Take care,
Claire

In this kind of silence there is more sound then imagination can describe--but you did.

Ya know I haven't seen you so sad since the last time she left and you couldn't get a hold of each other. When she appeard how happy you were.  Well I hope history repeats itself Michael!  This was really sad, the silence can be deafening!

Micheal, I haven't been in this family very long, but I felt joy for you two. I think that we all share a saddness for you right now that we hope will turn around.

Michael. . .

Again. . . it would seem that you and I are going through a lot of the same feelings. . . sometimes, you have to go through the silence to get to the voices (the noise). . . just wait. . .that's what I've learned. . . I know that it's hard. . . but it's all that you can do. . .

Believe that it will work Michael. . . believe with all your heart. . .

Wow, I didn't expect such a response to this poem.  Gen made it home late last night, I am hoping to get to speak with her tonight.  Who knows, maybe I'll have something a little happier to write about tomorrow.  Thank you all for putting up with my whining the last few days, even so...and for your kindness.

Michael,
When our minds start to wander about things that bother us ,we most always make things out to be worse than they really are..
Im happy for you and it`s nice to see some happiness in your post...Again
I`ll be looking for one of your uplifting poems tomorrow.< !signature-->

Yes, silence can be lonely.  I can relate, but from my self-centered point of view, nothing is lonlier than feeling lonely when that certain someone is in the same room...
