My head hurts from the shame .
I opened the door and let it in again.
Even though it is not mine,
it pulls up a chair and starts to dine.
It eats away at my self-esteem, devours my self-worth and swallows my character.
I am aware of it’s presence now.
and  want to close the door on it but I don’t know how .
The out come is what I fear.
I am fighting a losing battle and can only hope the end is near

How fresh and different to treat shame as an univited guest!  I like that.  If this is from your own life, I hope it's not long before you definitely show it the door (especially if it's not yours!)

Sounds likea  visit from the devil to me, but thats just my opinion!  Or even a serious illness, or accident, or anything.  You can take this uninvited guest as a lot of different things!  I hope that if this is a person experience, that you can find a way to close that door on whatever it is and get rid of it forever!

 Did Jesus laugh?
I think He did,
'cause He was once
a little kid;
and all of us
were made with joy
both sugar-spice girl
and snake-snail boy!

Ted, SEA,and Echo thankyou for your warm wishes. The shame is my ex-husband. Writing is a therapy of sorts and I tried to write how he made me feel. Oh and yes I have closed the door .

Tasi-
The 'uninvited guest' sometimes
returns to our thoughts.
Now you can look at him in a different light.
That makes you the winner.
Great rendering.
