(Please excuse the irregularities in rhythm and rhyme in this...it was not written as a poem, but rather as a song and at the present time is being set to music)

Am I Too Late

I’ve traveled far and long
Through miles of winding roads
Loneliness my companion
Though I’ve never been alone
Here within my heart you’ve been
Within my dreams and mind
Each step I’m getting closer
To the love I hope to find

Every road, it leads me closer
To where you stand in wait
I know it seems forever
But I pray I’m not too late

Babe, I’m growing weary
It’s a hard life I’ve been through
And every day that passes
Brings me one day nearer you
Each mile, each step, I travel
Makes me want you even more
Why was I too blind to see
I needed you before

Every road it leads me closer
To where you stand in wait
I know it seems forever
But I pray I’m not too late

The moment that I’ve waited for
Has now arrived at last
Will you be there waiting
After all this time has passed
The dust has finally settled
And my eyes can clearly see
There ahead, up in the distance
You running straight towards me

Every road has lead me closer
And now you stand in wait
Babe, I know it’s been forever
But I’m glad I’m not too late

Yes, I’m glad It’s not too late

< !signature-->

 Have you ever noticed
That the words...
"Goodbye"
"I'm sorry"
"I love you"
Are so easy to pronounce
...Yet so hard to say
~Javan

Hoot~ I can hear the song! This is beautiful!!!! I can hear someone like Wynona Judd singing this. This, I think, is my favorite of your's. Though it is hard because I really like all of your poems!   -SEA

I guess everyone can put a tune in their head for this one, mine wasn't country though. Excellent Ruth, we'd sure like to hear the finished product!

Elizabeth...I wish I could claim fame that some well known music artist had bought this for their record lable, but since I only wrote it yesterday...anyway a good friend who also happens to be a talented musician and also loves my poetry asked if I'd ever consider writing a song....he issued a sort of challange that if I wrote the words, he'd do the music and is well on his way to having it done. When I read it, I see it as a country song, Lord only knows what he'll come up with, but I am most anxious to see the result.
I think I'll record it and post it as a link or something from announcements when it's done.
Corazon, Whtdove, Sea and vandana...thank you all

You already know how i feel about this song
You can never be to late
Beautiful
Hugs and Love

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Lady Hoot:  Ditto to all the above.  Music is my life... I'm not a musician, but I've worked at a public station for the past 12 years.  Would love to hear how this one works out.  And from a pure read your words sounded wonderful... nice story. I can hear country... blues... ballad.  Like I said... would like to hear the finished product.  My best to you and yours.

My wish for this is simple and clear...I want to hear you sing it.  Its to good to allow anyone but you sing it

Wow...thank you all for the overwhelming Possitve response to this one. I can't wait to hear it either. I'll try to get it online somehow so everyone can hear what it sounds like.

David...I'm not sure even you would want to hear me singing

Ruth-
It is really, really good.  I've been singing it for the last 12 minutes ...
tried it several different styles.
I've come up with a
Mary Chapin-Carpenter/Joe Diffie duo.
(if you've ever heard them do 'If I was not the first, just say I'll be the last.  It's too much to expect, but it's not too much to ask.'  Then you'll know just what I'm talking about.)

Well, think about it !
It's terrific, Ruth.

Being a bit of a singer myself, I too, heard this song in a country style.  You never know though, could be a lovely pop ballad!
Nice work, Ruth.

Ruth, This has got a grasp like no other, I read it as a poem first, then went back and sang it, I picked up a country beat as I did so I'd say country on it to. I can't wait till you get a copy so you can share it, I know it will be fabulous.

Nice song Ruth.  I wish I could write songs.  I have a very good friend in California and he is in a christian band and I was thinking about writing some songs for his band but I haven't talked to him about it yet.   My son in Germany told me he is trying to write some songs.  He plays the drums and has some musical and artistic talents.  You are living my dream.  James
