In Like a Lion and Out Like a Lamb

You came in like a lion
So pompous and loud
Talking and working
The obvious crowd

Pleasing and teasing
And using your charm
Embracing and gracing
Each one in your arms

And I waited my turn
Just like every one else
And couldn't take my eyes off
Your wonderful self

I had long been in love with you
Equal to none
And was saddened to think
I was not number one

You spent the whole evening
Enchanting the room
With your laughter that everyone
Tried to consume

The women all catered
To your every whim
A man of your talents
That made them all grin

So charming, so witty
So handsome, so sweet
A devil, an angel
Delightful to meet

By the end of the evening
You finally came
And gave me a kiss
As you whispered my name

Then you closed your blue eyes
And your one-year-old charms
And left like a lamb
In your Daddy's warm arms

Grandma

Well, you took me in too, and I'm delighted by it.  I KNOW that seductive individual.  This is absolutely ravingly wonderful -- what's more, I've not the slightest doubt it's publishable.

Amen to what Ted said, Liz, though I'm not a grandma, I know what you mean about a baby's ability to charm and disarm! Wonderful poem, Liz, just wonderful!

Liz,

You succeeded in getting your message across very well. Apparently, we all got fooled. I like twist endings.

First I thought it was me
But whom am I kidding here
I could never compete with him
Although the blue eyes would fit

Such a beautiful tribiute to your grandson
Exellent and fun to read.
So he is like a Ricky Marten, or Mel Gibson, or Burce Willis. Ok guys get in line

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Liz, this is not what I expected at all when I started reading this.  This was so unexpected, and sooooooo sweet!  I just love this!   How warm and tender!

What beautiful responses you all have given to this poem. Thank you all very much Helmut, thanks for being here. It could have been about you, if we'd drop the last verse! Thanks for the poem. And Pepper, it's so nice to see you. I hope you get better soon. You've been ill too long.
Thanks again
Liz
