state of confusion

At a country inn in Cornwall,
I visited for just one week,
when late one night music began,
and entered my deep sleep.

I awoke gradually,
roused by curiosity,
a man played the piano,
a sonata meant only for me.

A candelabrum burned next to him,
to light the score he was reading,
I stood completely motionless,
and tried to slow my breathing.

So moved was I by his music,
his focus and intensity,
an enigma, a true talent,
long hair swinging gracefully.

I dared to tip-toe closer still,
he did not seem to sense me there,
his scent I inhaled deeply,
I could almost touch his hair.

I felt wonderment and more,
a primeval stirring within,
I had not felt this way before,
an instinctual drive to be with him.

So lost was he in the melody,
the tune now somber and slow,
I swayed, became light headed,
felt this need inside me grow.

He finally caught sight of me
and jumped slightly, I smiled,
but he continued playing,
as if he had known all the while.

He paused, but only briefly
to ask me to join him there,
I slipped down next to him,
and into his pied-piper lair.

He took my right hand in his,
and switched to a simple song,
showed me how to imitate,
while his left hand played along.

I fell in with the rhythm,
his hand resting lightly on mine,
with a whisper of a lover’s kiss,
this musician sent me a lifeline.

He asked me then if I would come
along on his musical journey.
It was right, there and then,
the music man was my destiny.

Beautiful in style, so full of music passion and love
Hold on to that dream don't let fly away that dove
Thanks for making my heart sing
Keep on writing with such swing

Corrine-
You certainly 'tickled the ivory'
with this one.
Carried me through the sonata
tenderly enraptured by the flow.

Wonderfully played.

I like this...

Low key...yet sensual...

Mostly ...I envy your ability to rhyme... )

I thought you were going to say it was a dream. What a beautiful poem. Now exactly where is Cornwall Inn?

Thanks, Poet deVine, and it is, shall we say, based on a true story.

Thank you Helmut for the poetic response!

Marge, Breathe, Denise and Hoot, thank you for your kind words!

Liz and Parker, this Cornwall is located on the southern tip of England.  It is probably the warmest, sunniest spot in the U.K; very popular holiday locale.

Went there with me mum and me bro, met a very mysterious man.  Gee, life seemed so simple then, you just fall in love, boom!
