Alone she sits and sadly wonders why
The best in life has simply passed her by
Why always does it seem she’s looking in
Through windows tightly closed – to her chagrin.

She hears the laughter, their frivolity
But as a ghost, a misted entity
She isn’t seen or heard by anyone
‘Though valiantly she tries to join the fun.

She sings a lovely song but ears don’t hear
Her arms are open wide but none come near
A river of despair is threatening
Soon nothing is the song that she will sing.

She fights the undertow despite the pain
She gives it all she has as if she’ll gain
At last the recompense due those who give
Unselfishly to others as they live.

Perhaps it takes a wiser one than she
To figure out this puzzling mystery
Are some in shadows dark consigned to stay
And sadly watch as others gladly play?

So lonely is this outside looking in
Here yearning for the warmth and love within
She sadly sits alone and wonders why
In life the best has simply passed her by.

A puzzling mystery indeed!

On the outside looking in
looking for someone to befriend
a wealth of self to be shared
if only someone out there cared.

My compliments for writing such a good poem.
You are an excellent writer.

Beautiful poem, Denise.

I usually have the opposite problem. I'm looking out the window, but can't get out.

This was great Denise...reminded me of that old song, "on the outside looking in"!!!

Open arms can be the most fragile in the world...

A sad, sweet tale, Denise!

Hate that undertow feeling myself, seems like the only cure is to fight, keep it at bay, but sometimes, numbness comes anyway.

Now you've done it
I'm sad and lonely.
WAIT! no I'm not
I have wonderful friends
like you right here at my finger tips
I loved the poem but am now going to
find one that makes me feel happy again.
All just part of this wonderful
rollercoaster we hang out in.
Denise your the best!

This is beautiful, Denise, and sadly all too true for some.......I doubt that you are one, however. Anyone would want you in their group!

Denise, this got me somehow. Right in the heart. Surely you are not writing about yourself?   ~Hugs~

Denise-

Well, my, my !
I see we write fiction too.
Knowing how how your friendships abound,
this one can't be about you.

What a lovely little slice of life.

Lovely poem, and the sadness is overwhelming.  I hope it was just a dark day, and that the next was brighter for you.

This is exactly how I felt when I was young.
I love this poem.  You are a wonderful poet.  I hope in a few years I will write poetry as good as you write it.
