On a warm and balmy summers night
I'll never forget the fear
When a neighbor came and said the words
We never wanted to hear.
Two boys were in an accident,
Did she really say Kevin and Scott?
It took a moment for it to hit
But when it did, it hit a lot.
One look at your face was all it took
I could almost read your mind
My face must have been a mirror of yours
So afraid of what we would find.
We raced in a fog to get to our boys
Our hearts beating hard in our chest
Praying harder than ever before in our lives
That God was just giving a test.
As we rounded the curve and saw all the lights
The fear quickly grew in our hearts
Our "babies" were somewhere up in that crowd
and the car wasn't much more than parts.
When we finally found our two "little" boys
They were scared and hurt somewhat
And the look in their eyes led us to know
That our ties would never be cut.
And we knew God had cradled our "babies"
His hands gently softened the blow
He sent angels to watch over Kevin & Scott
That's something that each of us know.
We both thank God for giving us time
To again hold those boys in our arms
And to show us He will to His best
To keep them away from life's harms.

This is a terrific poem, Biskie!  I'm especially gladdened at how it came out.
Welcome to the Forums.  A few things you should know about posting in here so that you are not led astray.  There is a rascally scalawag named "Toerag", who lives up to his name.  Unlike me, he is NOT a saint and you must never let him get too close!  Oh sure, he IS my friend, but I have to look out for the world, yanno.

There is also another poet named Balladeer.  He is smoothe, the consummate poet.  He, too, can be a rascal, but I doubt he will ever be a scalawag, as he is very saintly.  Don't trust him, either!  Only trust me.

BTW - both of them are actually pretty terrific guys, but I must never let them know this, as they are prone to basking in the adulation of their followers.

As for the rest of the poets in here...  I doubt you will find a more loving and supportive group of people on any other website.  You MUST chat with Nan sometime to get an historical perspective on why this site was created and why it is truly a great place to post your poetry.

I hope Kevin and Scott learned from their lesson.  As the epitaph goes, "We progress through life in stages, each delimited by a lesson.  Until we learn the lesson, we cannot move on to the next stage."  From your poem I think it is safe to conclude, you have passed another lesson.

I think there's a poem in that epitaph that is waiting for me.  Perhaps this should be a challenge for others, too.

Welcome BSC ... beautifully written poem
it started to dampen my eyes before it was through
If anything were to happen to my children
I know my life would end

WELCOME! What a poem! I'm so glad it turned out good! Every parents nightmare of hearing something like that.

When you can't make up your mind
Which way is right for you,
Stop and softly ask yourself,
What Would Jesus Do?

I am glad your poem turned out the way it did.  If anything happened to Daryn I would find the nearest bridge.
