(Coming from Pennsylvania and living about 40 miles from Punxsutawney, I grew up knowing all about the ground hog called Punxsutawney Phil. So, in honor of all the hoopla surrounding him on this day Feb 2,2000, I dedicate this one to "Phil"   )

What’s Cooking On Gobblers Knob

At Seven Twenty-Eight this morn
They issued out a call
Where Two Thousand people gathered
Eyes upon him all

In a place called Punxsutawney
Way upon a snowy hill
People gathered round the home
Of a groundhog they named “Phil”

There on the hill called Gobblers Knob
Located in the east
They pulled him out from his warm nest
That little furry beast

Gloved hands held his body high
The waiting crowd all roared
Cameras flashed, there was applause
And poor ole “Phil” looked bored

He looked out at the noisy crowd
Gathered all around
And then glanced down to see his shadow
There upon the ground

I don’t know ‘bout you my friends
But I know that I, for sure
Don’t need be told winter’s still here
By a weatherman with fur

So I’ve got a good suggestion
I don’t think “Phil” will like a lot
Let’s kidnap winters harbinger
And cook him in a pot

I can live with the idea
That we are merely actors
Playing a part
But I do wish
Whoever is writing my script
Would learn to use
A few more Happy Endings

Good idea, Hon...you bring the lil' critter, and I'll make up some bodacious 5-Alarm Chili...we'll have pork cracklins and corn-onda-cob, and green beans, and boiled onions, and mustard greens, and a Whole Lot of Beer!!!

Watching modem lights a-blinking
Churning out poetic hash.

Help me keep my sanity:
Please don't let the modem crash!  --Alicat

This is so cute Ruth, but you know, it's like spring here today, 82 degrees, and sky the color of a baby boy's first blanket.  Maybe you and Phil should move out west.

Not sure what a groundhog would taste like, but Phil would surely be missed, whether he is right about the weather or not.
Nice work as usual.
