I walked out of the office-
Heard the slamming door behind.
I’m so glad to have it over...
Something else that’s off my mind.

Sixteen years of drudgery-
I’m sick and tired of it....
I finally had a belly full
And found the nerve to quit.

No more punching time clocks
No more nine to five.
No more city traffic jams-
Nor taking turns to drive.

No more secretaries-
With their endless tales of woe..
I finally found the nerve to quit,
And now it’s time to go.

Walk into the living room-
Something isn’t right.
.Normally it’s world War Three
Tonight it’s mighty quiet.

Breakfast dishes in the sink-
The bed is still unmade...
I can’t imagine what it means,
But now I feel afraid.

I find it on my bedside stand
One tiny folded note,
I take it in my trembling hand
And this all she wrote:

I’m tired of waiting up for you-
I’m tired of all the fights-
That you bring home from the office
Almost every night.

I’ve stood it now for twenty years-
I’m sick and tired of it...
A life of arguments and tears...
I’ve found the nerve to quit.

Wow, Gunslinger.  I like the way you've constructed this and the irony is just so sad.  Enjoyed the read!

Can't believe her timing.  You tell it so well. I always enjoy your tales

They sure had their timing out of sync! Great read, Gunslinger!
