If she should ever wake
From the darkest of dark sleep
I pray the Lord my soul I’ll keep
If she should ever wake

I wait forever at her side
With no more tears to brush aside
And only the wind howling outside
Will be the only sound God makes
If she should ever wake

I promised I would never leave
A promise I will never break
If she should ever wake

I told her I’m the first one she’ll see
And here I’ll always be
So she would come back to me
Oh what a smile my face would make
If she should ever wake

So I lay myself beside her
And write these songs for her
Hoping she could possibly hear
Wishing with wistful tears

I promised I would never leave
A promise I will never break
If she should ever wake

I hold her cold, unfeeling hand
Trying to understand
How to reap a harvest from a barren land
And love for loving’s sake
If she should ever wake

Never has time moved so slow
Nor darkness seemed to grow
Into her dream I will follow
And pray my soul to take
If she should never wake

My eyes are wet after reading this... I know of undying love, and you have expressed it beautifully.

WoW!
Amazed I am!
The raw feeling of this shot out at me, grabbing hold and refusing to yield its grip! Great hardly covers it, but that's the best I can come up with right now!

This is so hauntingly sad, but very well written

Everyone: Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me on this one and for letting me know how it made you feel. I am forever grateful, but to allay everyone's concerns, this was a work of fiction(thank god).
