I woke this morning to birds
Speaking my name
In a mood I can’t quite describe
Yet borders on shame
All there was and
All there will ever be
In the most peaceful quiet
These things come to me:
Light slowly creeping
Birds softly speaking
My name, over and over
Like a repetitive chant
My mind plays tricks
Like some twisted sycophant
Out of the darkness peers
The solar eye
Parting the gloom
Of the night-time sky
From its sight there
Is no escape
For its sacrifice there’s
No time to waste
What a picture painted
Here in my private world
At peace with myself
And holding on to that girl
Wishing to never end

Must be dreaming again

JML, Great poem. I love to dream and wish I could stay in them some days. But the sun always comes up and I have to wake up.
