Shallow feeling, deep despair-
How I hate that dreadful pair...
Although you may not understand
The two of them go hand in hand.
Shallow feelings sponsor lies-
You find too late, to your surprise
The vows of love and that “forever”
All too soon, rescind to “never”.
Artistic fool, the poets know-
Poor, mad Edgar Allen Poe
The tapping at the sill or door-
The wretched cry of, “Nevermore”.
Nevermore to wear a smile-
Conscience ever more defiled-
Despair so deep one cannot sound-
Nor bottom of the slough is found..
Death is close upon you stealing
All because of shallow feeling.

Yes, they certainly do go hand in hand. Another great poem, Gunslinger!

Gunslinger, a little different than your "normal" M.O. but I like this! Cynical, yes, but do we each not feel that distrust of human nature from time to time? I can relate, and I enjoyed reading this. (as always!)

HMM... I do agree that they go together,
But disagree on the one who tethered.
Poor Mr. Poe had issues, you know...
In the end, twas an ailing that set his soul free to go...
