The Curtain

You saw the curtain, you made it fall.
You tore it down, now see it all.
The cover I was hiding under.
Fell fast, without a thunder.
You saw how empty it is behind.
Why I’m so quiet, and never can unwind.
I’m now open, like a book to you.
Here I am, an old, worn out, empty shoe.
Tears…I can’t cry anymore.
A stranger landed on your shore.
The life I lived and left behind.
Was once so rich, one of a kind.
Lonely, I stand before thee now.
Over is my picturesque show.
Silently crying without a clue.
Now you know why I feel so close to you.

I left a live that was not mine.
Couldn’t drown it with bargain wine.
Still, ..I’m searching to this day.
But there is nothing more that I can say.
There is nothing left for me to do.
Now you know why I feel so close to you.

At times I feel I have died inside
The doors I shut will never open wide
Some say that I’m that kind a guy
Who always lends a hand, never asking why?
Well the mask I wore has fallen for you
Now I’m standing there not knowing what to do
Tears I cried, well the have dried.
..long long time ago.
My life passes by, but even so.
Now you know why I feel so close to you.

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Helmut-
Your words reach in and
tug at my heartstrings.
'Now you know why I feel so close to you.'

A likening to an old empty shoe
and a curtained, hidden heart
speaks deeply of the person who
found the words to create this verse
of lovely, aching art.

Thank you, Helmut, for sharing this. The way in which you've expressed vulnerability here is exceptional.

After coming from there to here, there's always a hollowness inside that can't be filled, unless you have a love to fill it.
I think I know what you're talking about.
