Rode into town,
...on buckskin's back,
No gun in sight,
...his coat was black.
He tied his mare,
...to hitching post,
And from his horse,
...let loose this boast,
There's not a man,
...in this whole town,
That from my words,
...will not back down.
From forth saloon,
...came out Big Jim,
Walked to the man,
...and snarled at him,
Get off that horse,
...you'll feel my gun,
And if you don't,
...you better run.
The man in black,
...he then replied,
Was for your sins,
...that he did die,
From forth his pack,
...pulled out Good Book,
And as he read,
...at Jim did look.
Big Jim was mad,
...and took a swing,
The man in black,
...did not a thing,
But took the blow,
...without a flinch,
The man nor horse,
...moved not an inch.
Jim held his fist,
...as he stepped back,
Had broke his hand,
...on man in black.
First time ever,
...Big Jim backed down,
As from Good Book,
...the man read on.

Mike, I like this one too, especially the succinct language and style in which you've written it...really befittin' the old western storytellin' craft.

(I thought this was the main site??)

Mike-
I also like this a lot.
Much power in the 'word'.
