I wake from dreams that rarely quench
the emptiness inside.
Unsparingly, they come to me,
from them I try to hide.

The story lines always speak of
truth I used to know.
Memories of used-to-be's
I desperately want to go.

'Tis not 'til sleep these thoughts creep in
to plague my broken heart.
So tenderly, this place in me
where since I've come apart.

And once again

I wake from dreams that rarely quench
the emptiness inside.
I must confess, in sleeplessness,
when awake, I feel I've died.

Nicely done...brief but effective, and your recapitulation serves well to showcase the recurrence of this dream state you're sharing.

Thanks, Claire!  Comments from you mean so much, as I have enjoyed reading your own works myself.  You always seem to put so much feeling into your writings.  And Sandgrain...so glad you enjoyed.

Roniece and Denise~
Thanks to both of you.  It's very flattering to know that someone tunes into your writings, with much understanding.  Denise, one of the first comments you made to me a while back was that sometimes the most beautiful writings come from the saddest experiences.  So true...as I find the bittersweet poetry to be most delicious right now.  Thanks again!

It's always a sad experience to wake up from a wonderful dream to discover it was only that....you express it very well, Sherry.
