Somewhere in the vast wasteland

There is a place we all know
Deep within our hearts
Where shadows and doubts roam
That are hidden from the start

We all go there from time to time
To that place that darkness now claims
Trying to explain why we committed those crimes
Even now we still cannot explain

In the streets are children crying
How could you have left so much undone
You say that you are trying
Yet what you need, still needs to be done

One child stands before you
With small hands rubbing his eyes
With a look you realize he looks like you do
You take him in your arms and start to cry

He starts to tell you his crimes
As you realize they are your own
The church bell now chimes
Now is the time for the seed to be sown

You see that he is you and you are him
Now is the time to forget but first you must forgive

This is a poem about how I have tended to forgive others but neglected to forgive myself of the wrongs and mistakes I have committed.  I go to this place often so that I can forgive myself of these, especially some of the long burried ones.

I agree with Hoot.  The challenge was met very well!!  I like this a lot...I can relate to the feelings in this!!  I so often find myself trying to explain WHY....but not getting anywhere!!  Keep writing...
