Hi, CrazyChick. A poem very close to my heart reminding me of the tubs of messed up kids I got to know (and be scared of) when I was very, very young and my mom was a foster parent. Hence why I moved far, far away.
Anyway, you did the right thing in leaving. People always gravitate toward the familiar, because, even when it hurts, it's what they know -- and therefore, strangely, it's comforting. That's why so many abused women keep on getting into abusive relationships. Why men usually marry women like their mothers, etc. The only way to break that cycle is to get into therapy. I know it helped me keep away from continuing any chaos in my life. Enjoy life for your own reasons, not some screwed up past that you're living again and again. And by the way, I know my words are strong, but I don't apologize -- I've seen too much, and know that a slap in the face is usually the only way to realize what you're doing to yourself.
Because I care,
