"Oh! We love your cookies, mom!
Can you make us some again?"
Said my freckle-faced, smiling sons
as morsels fell from their chins.
There is no greater satisfaction ~
'lest none that I have seen~
Than picking up after midnite snacks
    and finding plates licked clean.
"Would you like the beaters, kids?"
    I ask and with surprise
They bound into the kitchen fast
    and can't believe their eyes.
I hug them both and then explain
    with proud parental meter:
"That's why I had the two of you ~
    one to clean each beater!"

*My kids love this story, as I have told them over and over, the reason for having two kids was because I needed them to clean the cookie mix beaters. And also a good excuse for ONLY having two. Of course the oldest likes to brag about the time when he was able to have both to himself, before "brother" came along.
