              Homeless
           (for my brother)

Lonely streets, nights so cold
  constantly begging, becoming so bold
Roaming the streets, for charitable faces
living my life, in frightening places

Moving slowly, it's a constant fight
  homeless, hungry, a beggar's plight
    Weary bones, a wrinkled face
feeling inside, like a total disgrace

Into the night, I go walking
  another day spent, strangers balking
    Endless days, no doubt funny
standing on corners, begging for money

Just me and a friend, a maingy pooch
clinging to a bottle, my favorite hooch
    Dodging traffic, people so rude,
waving a sign, Will Work for Food

Sleeping in shelters, or on a bench
in cardboard boxes, when in a pinch
Cold hands aching, shoes full of holes
a life left wanting, That's how it goes!

So remember me now, this story I've told
be slow to judge, homeless life I've showed
Again these words, spoken one last time
help me brother, can you spare me a dime?

Danny, homeless people are just like you and me. They hurt, hunger, love and need. It's so sad and breaks my heart. When I can, I try to help. Everyone should heed your words....you never know if it's an angel in disguise. You never know .....it could be you or me tomorrow. Sad wonderful poem. -SEA

Excellent poem.  The description made me sad to think about the times I have met homeless people.  Thank you

Danny an excellent poem, though very sad...there are many reasons why poeple end up on the streets, It's a reminder of how lucky the rest of us really are.

Well written Danny. The thoughts and feelings this inspires are ones we should hang on to. We need to remember others are in worse situations then we are. Thankyou for reminding me.

Wow Danny, this is excellent. This is one of those poems that makes people stand back for a moment and think a bit. If you're around here long enough or search the archives, you'll find I love this type of poem that puts peoples lives into perspective
