Primal Notes
By ©Richard Budig 2000

Breeze driven leaves
stick to the fence
like post-em notes
on the fridge
beside the window
where I watch her
sift bulbs from earth,
her seed crop
for next summer's
yellow and purple.
After an hour or so
she comes in for tea
and I catch from her
the scent of ozone
and primal earth
that awakens in me
an equally primal urge.
