I had been out to sea
for much too long.
Just as I got my feet on the sand again,
you pulled me away.

A rushing tide of laughter and excitement
I let myself go with you
for a while.

Sailing on the crest of a tidal wave
it could've lasted an eternity
and then suddenly I felt
as if the wave were crashing over me
the weight of it crushed me

I didn't think I'd survive.

Now the tide has moved out.
I can look at the distant whitecaps
and remember the floating sensation
I had when I was with you.

But I can't pass everything by.
I need an anchor I can hold on to.
Or maybe just a sandbar
I can soothe my feet on.

I need a place to rest
where warm waters engulf me
and never threaten to sweep me
out to see again.

Next time, I won't survive.

Wendy, you have always been an anchor
in my life.
Remember when I came by your college
with my dog princess on my way home after
well, quite some time out West and then
somewhere in West virginia.
For some reason that sticks in my mind and
surfaces quite often.
Have you read Standing in GOD's Doorway?
The beginning of that reflects that
crazy wandering dude I was for so long
so long ago.And in a way I have always
felt that you were the one who brought
me home.
This poem is really great!!!!!!!!!
Keep them coming, I always knew you were
talented but wow.The only thing is
everyone will probably figure out
that you're my SISTER if you keep
using all that ocean imagery.
WELCOME BIG SISTER
I think you'll enjoy it here.
Post something every day or so, spread them
out and be sure to read and reply to
alot of the other poets here.
your little brother,
Paul

Beautiful imagery!  You put a poignant love story such as many of us have known, into an exquisitely written poem!  I love the analogy of the ocean.  Welcome to Passions!

Wendy...nicely presented. The tumultuous and devastating waves of the ocean are a wonderful analogy for whirlwind romance. Matter of fact, so many of life's pathways and feelings can be written with the ocean in mind...from fear to respect to acceptance of life's source, the ocean has inspired the writers and sages from time's commencement, and continues to do so here in "Passions." Welcome.

Welcome to Passions
You have written such nice poetry
Well expressed how you feel
Perhaps we all can lend a shovel full of sand
to make sure you have a sandbar to stand on

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful, warm welcome. Perhaps now I will have the courage to submit something that is less than 20 years old!

Welcome, Wendy.  Great poem. Yes, do post more. If this is 20 years old, I'd like to see what you've got cooking.
