In the moonlight, shadows dancing,
As they creep across my wall.
The trees outside my window, glancing,
Reaching for me as the wind calls.

In the moonlight, shadows dancing,
Reflecting the hunger from ‘neathe my bed.
Reaching, grasping, the necromantic
Fortelling of the unclean dead.

In the moonlight, shadows dancing,
The wind increases its mournful cry.
My beating heart now enhancing,
The evil wishes that I die.

In the moonlight, shadows dancing
Around my bed as fear seethes o'er.
Reaching, feasting, oh, romancing,
Tearing at Hell's inner doors.

In the moonlight, shadows dancing,
Ripping my heart from my chest.
No longer are the demons fasting,
As they devour whatever's left.

In the moonlight, shadows dancing,
Now I'm gone, I've lost my fight.
You will be next, Hell's ever panting
For souls to take in the dark night.

In the moonlight, shadows dancing,
Do you hear the creaking floor?....

Great piece Sailor. Well written and very dark. I enjoy reading the more serious side of you from time to time.

Hugs to you, oh deVine one.  Thanks for that comment.  I usually don't write dark stuff because it scares me later at night when the floor creaks.  I blame it all on my brother, who convinced me at an early age that something really WAS hiding under my bed, ready to grab an untended arm or leg and pull me to my doom.  Even now, I still wonder.. what was that noise?  It didn't sound like any other noise I've heard.  There it goes again, only its closer and more desperate.....

LOL at LJA!  First, great stuff!  Second, I did the same to my little brother...and he hasn't let me forget it these many years past, either!

Whew! Scarey stuff here, Mike! Sure makes me glad I don't have to sleep alone at night!  You've got a very active imagination! Well done!

Couldn't let the chance pass by
To tell you about this silly ole' guy...
The second his weary head hits the pillow
His eyes are shut, and he'd never see anything billow.
As for monsters coming from under our bed
Impossible! it's all closed in as tight as lead.
But he does have a passion for sheets tucked in tight
So somehwere, somehow, he must have been given a terrible fright.

Dear Mike,

I used to have this fear too,
monsters under my bed,
so I grabbed my daddy's tools
sawed off the legs instead!

Now no bogey man can fit,
even though I'm a grown up now,
'cause I discovered the Futon
it folds up, let me show you how!

Had that squeaky floor board fixed
by Randy the Handyman,
got a lock for the closet door,
plus all Randy's attention span!

Yes, Randy likes that futon,
he's afraid of the dark as well!
He's scared that my Victorian walls
might be the gateway to Hell!

So I sent Randy packin'
got me a nightlight instead,
no longer afraid,just decided
I'd rather have a king sized bed!

Corinne

LJA this was one to make the heart tremble!  Very good! Hey, I was told them things would grab a limb or two if they were left hanging out. So I just beat them all up and well they ain't been back.

LOL @ Corinne!  Good one!

Ahhh, sailor... I really failed you when I didn't meet you in New Orleans for a tour of the cemeteries, didn't I? *EG* That could have fueled an already over-active imagination! LOL. Well done!

But dangling over the edge of the bed??? Hmmmmmm... *EG*

Hey, this is some scary stuff here LJA. I'm so surprised, when I issued the challange, I thought I'd get a ton of sappy love poems....but very few are at all. Interesting mix I've gotten and I loved them all.
Well written....challange well met

Corinne - lol@futon - what a terrific response.  Did you really get rid of Randy?  Yanno, you shoulda kept him around so that the next time the claws reached up from beneathe your bed, you could have fed Randy to the evil thing that lurks there.  You didn't know it was there?  oops...  never mind, don't give it a second thought.  *eg*

Little White Dove - I know for a fact that you never tremble over the thing beneathe your bed (because you say your prayers every night, and, therefore, no evil will ever come for you that you cannot overcome).  hugs

Now now, Echo - no need to worry.  Them ol' demons hate sweets ('cause there aren't any dentists where they come from), and you are sweetness through and through.  So you just rest easy (stay away from Toe, though).

Belle - I really wish we had gotten together in Nawlins - we could have had so much fun together.

Hootessa - your challenge has certainly received a lot of answers.  This is the most successful challenge I've ever seen in here.  Great job.
