Quietly I sit alone in my office
Which comes as no surprise
While outside the wind is howling
Beneath the overcast skies

A storm looms on the horizon
And all the while it's beckoning
For when the storm reaches land
It will be the time of reckoning

Dark grey clouds move from south to north
Licking roofs as they pass by
Seagulls wage war against the wind
In order for them to fly

Palm fronds bend from left to right
As if they are trying to convey
A warning to all God's creatures
For a storm is coming this day

Flags are waving violently
Becoming torn and tattered
Yet still they fly their colors proudly
As if that really mattered

The normal serene tranquil beauty
That is such a part of this bay
Has been replaced by waves of anger
Tossing boats that get in their way

Now standing at my office window
I watch the world go by
And wonder what next this day will bring
As I look into the sky

Wonderfully descriptive poem, G.A. I could see the storm, too!

Thank you all for your kind words. But thanks most importantly to mother nature, for she was the one who gave me the display of her power. I just simply put words to it. I wish all poems were that easy to write...lol. Thank you all again.

Thanks to you and Mother Nature both!!  I love the power, violence, imagery and freedom of a storm, you put it into words far better than I ever could.  You caught the emotions I feel when witnessing the tempest. Thanks

Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.

Oh Webb, this is a wonderful piece!  You have described with perfection the onset of such ominous tidings.  I could feel this one completely, as if I were standing in that office building beside you...

"The finest qualities of our nature, like the bloom on fruits, can be preserved only by the most delicate handling. Yet, we do not treat ourselves nor another thus tenderly." ~Henry David Thoreau

G.A.-
Very descriptive.
Very good.

I am reminded that-
'Serenity is not freedom from the storm,
but peace during the storm'

I found serenity here.
