There in the nighttime sky
I behold a little lonely star
Where my thoughts of love reside
Held aloft and brighter by far
Ever the steady guiding light
For a traveler through the storm
How can something in the cold of night
Be so distant, yet ever so warm
No jewels upon Earth can measure
Nor even be held in any compare
For God so values this treasure
Her light in Heaven He will forever bear

Such a beautiful little star in the envious sky
I shield her radiance from my undeserving eyes

JML...this is a lovely poem, but it does not meet the strict guidelines of a sonnet. A sonnet is 14 lines of iambic pentameter with 5 feet (one unstressed/one stressed beat) per line. Perhaps just not call it a sonnet.
Otherwise, nicely written
