In the Moonlight, Shadows Dancing

In the moonlight, shadows dancing
against the dampened pane
listening, living, within your breathing,
each breath a tortured strain.

Thinking on the lives below us
just there, upon the street
in the darkened evening's chorus
Hear God's merciful retreat.

What of the times we've been among them?
Busily moving in heartful haste
and now, as precious beats remind us
not one moment was set to waste.

For just now, in shadows' dance with moon
and Earth's revolving race
do I love you more than the tenderest touch
or the most honoring embrace.

I love your wracked and crackling gasps
inflamed, of bitter blood
the stench of decay from within your lungs
I loathe and also love.

And now as time is edging nigh
and as our mortal endings start
in the moonlight, shadows dancing
Love, eternally, hold my heart.

Dear LadyClaire

Wow...when I issued the challange, I never dreamed I'd get something this hauntingly dark out of it. Wow...what another twist to the line, thank you, wonderfully done and a fine response to the challange

Thank you, Hoot Owl. You know, I really wasn't going for "dark" with this...guess it just came out that way. Losing a love is darkness, yes, but so much was light in the life we shared.

Love and devotion through all of life, the light and the dark is true love. To find such a love is the greatest gift we can possess in this life. This poem speaks that love and devotion. Well done, Claire.

Breathtaking! I could picture two people, who've shared a lifetime of love, trying to let go of each other. It made me think of my grandparents.  Grandpa has alzheimers and his wife has lung cancer.  Timeless tale of love!

Claire-
What a beautiful answer to the challenge.
Your love for your lost one just made
the moonbeams shine a little brighter.

Elizabeth...Thank you kindly, Madam, but I can assure you it is all done with spirit gum and mirrors.

Take care,
Claire
