Could you give me just one reason why my life goes on and on?
All my lovers and companions, from my side have long been gone.
My family, my friends, my dreams, have all gone up in smoke-
My youth’s as gone as all my schemes, I’m old as well as broke.

Chorus:
But there’s always on more road to drive, and one more town to see.
And one more friend to make and leave, I guess that’s being free.
“Freedom’s nothin’ left to lose”, Or so I’ve heard it said-
I guess I’ll go on living free, until they find me dead.

Frredom’s drinking coffee, at some truck stop by the road-
And the sweet smell of a meadow, shortly after it’s been mowed.
It’s watching stars up in the sky, out on the Great Divide-
A friend to care, a girl to love; and one more bronc to ride.

Chorus:

Slinger-
I like the ~sing-song~ of this.
Can almost smell the new-mown meadow.
But ... longingly I hear

Living free
ain't all
it's cracked up
to be
but I'll take it
'til something better
comes along

Giddyap !

Your work is always so rich with grassroots truth, Gunslinger. This song keeps up your tradition. (Liked the Kristofferson reference) (Oh, and "the sweet smell of meadow")

Freedom's drinking coffee at some truck stop by the road.........it doesn't get any truer that that. Very flavorful, gs
