Fern Sense and Place of Shaded Grace

It is in a place of shaded grace
sheltered by a canopy
this space at my front door
where I admire one small plant.

It smells green
less pungent than grass,
there are hints of yellow
around the fringes
with the fragrance of sun.

Seeking light
yet too fragile
to take such intensity
full force.
A shadow will do
just to dapple for a while.

You could say
it stirs to wind,
a mere whisper.
If you’re quiet
you can hear
the touching of leaf to air.

More to its liking
for I have seen in wild abandon
it growing thus
deep beneath the redwood trees.

To take the breath
into this hallowed place
stills the heart
for the magnitude of the hush
that sound makes.

See the fragile
fern gamely taking root
in such a tiny crevice in a rock
one would think this faith is false?

Truth cascades a waterfall
of sword-like graceful wonder
to erase the doubt
and sun slants down the branches high
to bless this knowledge to the eye
in a fern grove
beneath the redwood trees.

It is in a place of shaded grace
sheltered by a canopy
this space at my front door
where I admire one small plant.

Almost as much imagery in the title as the poem..that's what drew me...as usual, your work is excellent!

Oh my, Martie, you would just LOVE my yard ...

This spoke with a whisper and carried an air of pleasant quietude.  I enjoyed very much -- thank you.

--Kess

Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...
