Snowy Days and Thursdays
(Shall Not Get Me Down)

When Melancholia makes you frown
Reach deep within your soul,
For HappiNess lies there deep down
Just takes a slight cajole.

Let not those burdens callous thee;
Take charge of them instead.
Cast out those wretched thoughts and see
You'll cheer your troubled head !

(Just trying to convince myself - It's snowing!!)

Boy can I relate to this! It's snowing here too! I asked my daughter to make other arrangements for picking up my granddaugher from school today (I've been picking her up since I was laid-off) because of the slippery mess! I have a real fear of going out walking when conditions are like this since I fell and broke my arm (remember the blizzard of '96...I'll never forget it!) Although it is pretty and snow is so easily romanticized, I tend to mostly HATE SNOW too! But I love your poem!

Sunny Days and Thursdays
Will Get Ms. Nancy Down

If you can find the ice
When all about you
Are shoveling theirs
And blaming it on you

If you can take one small fan
And with it create a breeze
If you can take your lunch
And sit under the cottonwood trees

If you can wear your shades
So you don’t squint in the sunnyness
Then you will be an enemy
Of the Icy NaniNess!

80 degrees…slight breeze…sun peeking out of the clouds…

If you can find pure NanniNess,
You'll feel the warmth of WordniNess,
The sun will shine and melt your IciNess,
And all will live with HappiNess.

I can tell it's winter once more
Snow and ice i see galour
The poem I think is nicely done
I like the read back...to you Nan

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

I would like to see some snow or rain or anything vagely resembling winter, here.  Loved the poem and can imagine what it's like, but not very well.

Arctic Tundra?  LOL  Nan!  Geez, I shoveled out twice last night and once this morning! And the wind chill is -23. That is if it hasn't gotten colder, that was this morning!
So get happy, it will all be over soon and then we can complain how hot it is! hehe

Nan...maybe this will help. I always think of this saying when it snows. I heard it when I was in 6th grade (and I'm not saying how many years ago that was   and it's stuck through me since then.

Happiness is like snow; It makes beautiful everything it covers

Dear sweet Hootessa - Did Toerag teach you that saying about snow???  *innocent eyes*  lol

As for lil Nan's pooem - we need more verses, and a little accompanying music would be nice, too.  hmmmm - lemme see if I can write something more...

When the snow is falling all around,
And the sidewalks can't be found.
Everything is going to s**t,
And you can't get over it,
Just think of Nan and you will know "unsound."

When the tundra's knocking at your door,
And the windchill's below -44.
Pull your coat up real tight,
Use lots of covers at night,
Just think of Nan and you'll not be cold anymore.

Oh, oh, Nan, the Ice Queen of the land.
I'd love to hold your chilly hand,
But please not real tight,
I'm afraid of frost bite.
I'll just think of you while I get a tan.

hmmmm hmmmm hmm-hmm.  hmmmm hmmmm hmm-hmm.....

Gee - what a nice tune....

Nan out in the snow
in little woolen mittens ...
while in the sunny South
we're sunning with the kittens.

Even though the weather
in Florida is a little chilly,
it'll warm up by noon
and then we'll feel a little silly.

Silly ... for buying heavy coats
we wear but twice a year.
We'd rather slink into a bikini
with a tan upon our rear.

Sorry for the snow.
I saw it ONCE in my life.
I never forgot it
but I didn't wait for TWICE !

I skedaddled back to the warmth
of The Sunshine State real fast.
Nan, I hope you wake to sun rays
that melt that stuff .... REAL FAST !

What? I can't hear what you're saying over the whirrrrr of my fan!!!

LngJnAg, Toe may have two inches but what measuring scale are you using...A dollar bill is 6 inches long! Is Toe then about 30 cents?

And just yesterday I was thinking of taking a nap out on the lawn so the sun could bake my bones. LOL. Enjoyed the poem, Nan... and wish I could share some of the sunny south with you! *S*

No pity will you find from me,
Oh piteous poetess!
For I would give a lot to be
Right where you are, Ms. Ness!
You see, down here in Florida,
(A fact that I bemoan),
The only "snow" we ever see
Is flavored in a cone!
A land of dank humidity
And skeeters seeking blood --
I tell ya what -- I'll take your snow
And you can have my MUD!

hehehe

Deal with it, lady!

Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...

Now snow I've got up to my butt...
..or ankle high at least
But shoveling I shall not do
It makes me so displeased...

In Florida I'd love to be
Or somewhere nice and warm...
I'd just hang out down by the beach
Where skeeters do not swarm..

I feel for you Nan,
I watched those storm clouds go by,
kind of wish they stayed around.
I so enjoy moving it for money
then skiing on it for pleasure.
Thanks for all your help.
